Workshops, talks and speaking engagements

I enjoy giving talks and leading workshops on themes that matter deeply in people’s lives – from relationships, wellbeing and anxiety to coping, loss and inner patterns. These workshops usually grow out of the themes that are most alive for me at a given time, and the questions people most often bring. They can be commissioned by companies, organisations and smaller groups alike.

Fees for talks and workshops are agreed individually and depend on the client’s needs, the format and the time involved. I can also be invited to speak on topics beyond the examples below.

Our sense of wellbeing does not depend only on whether everything in life is objectively fine, but also on our ability to notice what is good. Human nature is such that what felt deeply desirable yesterday can quickly become taken for granted today – and stop bringing joy. Of course, it is neither possible nor necessary to feel good all the time. In difficult periods and in crisis, we usually do feel bad. But no one’s life is one endless crisis. So perhaps it is possible to experience a little more wellbeing after all?

Is wellbeing mainly a matter of luck – that if nothing is wrong, I can feel well? Or is it connected to personality traits and temperament, as if it were a privilege reserved for naturally cheerful people? I believe, and research supports this, that mental wellbeing is more of a skill. A skill that asks us to revise certain attitudes and beliefs. And skills, as we know, can be learned. What kind of self-care skills do we need in order to support ourselves in a way that allows for more joy and lightness in life?

This workshop brings reflection and experience together. We look at how positive emotions arise, why they genuinely matter for mental health, and how they can be cultivated more consciously. If wished, the experience can be complemented by a taiko drumming workshop and concert.

Examples of other themes I speak about

How do we refill our own cup?

How can we grow a greater sense of satisfaction both at work and at home? Are there ways to hold on to joy, inner calm and emotional balance even when life is demanding?

This talk focuses on self-care, self-leadership, and the question of how to notice our needs before tiredness or tension begins to run the show.

“I lost myself. Not sure when I’ll be back.”

Anxiety does not always show itself as a trembling voice or panic. More often, it appears as a quieter inner tension, restlessness or discomfort that we may not even recognise as anxiety at first. We explore how anxiety affects our choices, relationships and behaviour, and what automatic ways of coping we have learned over the course of life. We also look at how those strategies may help us at times – and hold us back at others.

What are our main ways of regulating anxiety, and how do they affect our relationships? When anxiety rises, we almost always try to manage it somehow. Some withdraw, some become controlling, some go silent, some become irritable, some overwork.

This talk helps people notice which patterns become active in stressful situations, and how these patterns shape both their sense of self and the quality of their relationships.

How do we cope with loss and failure?

Loss, disappointment and failure are part of life. The question is not how to avoid them completely, but how to move through them without falling apart inside.

We look at how people respond to loss, which ways of coping truly sustain us, and how we can learn to support ourselves better during difficult times.
